Steve is passionate about helping others reach their goals. His belief is that human capital is quickly becoming the only differentiator between good companies and great ones. Steve strives to create a corporate culture that embraces the entrepreneurial spirit in order to align both personal and professional goals.
Steve also loves integrating cutting-edge technologies into already existing markets that desperately need them. An experienced executive in leading and growing technology-based businesses, he manages aggressive and innovative management teams – including business development, product design and management, software architecture and operations management. Currently, Steve works with a few early stage companies and serve as Acting CEO, COO and advisor. Steve is the founder of TYP64, a Digital Transformation and Private Equity Firm, a firm that combines the skills and experiences of a career focused on leadership, software, and data technologies to help the dreamers, founders and “Crazy Ones” to build the next world changing companies. Steve is an avid believer and promoter of early stage companies. As Steve points out, “they provide hope, build critical technologies, try new business models and influence the possibilities of the future. Derek McSpadden
Chief Executive Officer
Derek McSpadden brings over three decades of visionary leadership and strategic insight to his role as President and CEO of Scottsdale Construction Systems. Known for his relentless drive and deep industry expertise, he has helped to bring solutions to construction companies and fabricators all over the globe. His commitment to excellence and customer-centric approach have driven significant growth and cemented the company’s over sixty-year reputation for delivering the longest lasting, highest-quality, most resilient machines and the easiest to use, most exhaustive software solution in the market.
Derek has been in the modular construction space for over 30 years, starting with traditional factory-built homes and moving to panelized construction and volumetric modular. He is highly regarded in the sustainable building products, circular building materials and construction industry and he spent almost 10 years at Nucor Steel, the largest recycler in North America. He has also had roles in fabrication, construction installation and has worked to develop several design and engineering software solutions, factory solutions and other full-scope software products tailored to construction products and projects.

Byron Fergus
Global Sales Director
Byron leads our team of regional sales managers and is passionate about onboarding new customers entering new markets and Scottsdale’s technology.
John Burns
Production and Service Manager, North America
John has an extensive mechanical and manufacturing background which includes over 8 years’ experience working with rollforming machines. John is based in Scottsdale’s Colorado facility and manages North American manufacturing, machine servicing, and new machine setup and commissioning for the region.
Lance Curry
Customer Support & Training Manager
Lance manages the software customer support team and has 14 years of experience with Scottsdale and has established manufacturing plants and trained and supported customers in Africa, Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
Lance has been involved with Scottsdale before its conception when previously he was building with timber and thought there must be a better way. Lance brings a wealth of practical knowledge and solutions as he has ran his own roll forming plants and erected houses throughout the world. Specializes in getting alongside new customers progression into Light Gauge Steel Frame housing or commercial fit outs by rolling up his sleeves and showing the way.
Dr. Thanuja Ranawaka, B.Sc. Eng. (Hons.1), MSc. (SL), PhD (QUT), MIEAust, CPEng, NER, RPEQ
Principal Engineer
Thanuja is the Principal Engineer at Scottsdale Construction Systems with more than 15 years of experience in light-gauge steel engineering. Thanuja has extensive knowledge of structural analysis and design in light gauge cold-formed steel, including significant experience in research and development projects, providing innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable engineering solutions. She has in-depth knowledge of conceptual and detailed design, complying with the following design codes: AS/NZS 4600, AS/NZS 1170 Parts 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4, NZS 1170 Part 5, AS 4100, the Building Code of Australia, NASH Standards, AISI S100, ASCE 7, IBC, British Standards, European standards, and South African standards. Thanuja is a current Standards Committee member of NASH Australia and NASH New Zealand. She works effectively with multidisciplinary teams and global customers.
