Method: SSMA, Single Deflection Track Selection and Track Within a Track Deflection Assembly (2000), after USACE ETL 1110-3-411. t = √(7.5·P·e / (Fy·beff)); e = 1.5 × gap; beff = 1.25 + 2(e + 1.25)·tan 60° in inches, for a 1¼-in. (32 mm) stud flange, or 12 in. per foot of wall for track within a track. For slotted track, e is the distance from the web to the screw at its farthest point, a conservative check. Track steel should have Fu/Fy ≥ 1.08 and at least 10% elongation, and delivered thickness may be 95% of design thickness. This calculator is a preliminary design aid. Final track selection is the responsibility of the engineer of record or the track manufacturer's tested values.
