The Element Hotel by US Frame Factory in Richmond, VA
The Project Description
The Element Hotel in Richmond, Virginia, required a structural framing solution for an eight-story, 110,000 sq. ft. hospitality project. The building design called for eight floors of cold-formed steel load-bearing walls and floor joist systems, 15–20 ft room spans, 24-inch-on-center wall framing, and coordination with structural steel on the lower floors. Planning and estimating took about one year before fabrication began.
The Scottsdale Solution Package
US Frame Factory fabricated the steel framing package using the KFS Framemaker 1622 and KFS Framemaker 1420 roll forming machines. Working from the structural engineer’s approved package, the team moved the project into Scottsdale’s ecosystem and fabricated the CFS wall and floor systems using ScotRF. The project also incorporated a 2-hour fire-rated floor/ceiling assembly using CFS floor joists and DragonBoard Structural Subfloor Panel, helping meet the performance demands of the modern multi-story hospitality construction.
The Results
Fabrication was completed over eight months, and framing was erected by a 12-person crew. The total steel framing package was valued at approximately $1,250,000, or $11.34 per sq. ft. The project shows how advanced roll forming technology can support large-scale hospitality construction by delivering production-ready cold-formed steel systems for coordinated field installation and consistent multi-story framing.
