Modular Emergency Housing Built with Steel Framing
TAHZADE DISASTER MANAGEMENT (TDM) was first introduced to roll forming steel framing technology through Steve Cullender, Scottsdale Construction Systems’ local South African agent, in 2006. TDM specializes in providing reusable steel-framed emergency housing units across South Africa, where modular homes can be picked up, loaded onto trucks, and put up in 5 minutes.
Rajan Harinarian, a South African entrepreneur, came up with the idea of a “foldaway home” following a fire disaster in KwaZulu-Natal, where 200 people were left homeless.
The steel-framed homes are reusable emergency housing units that could be used as an alternative to housing disaster victims who find themselves living in inhuman conditions.
Modular Steel-Framed Housing Units for Disaster Relief
Scottsdale’s roll forming solutions allow TDM to fabricate all the steel framing in an environment unaffected by the disaster elements and delivered to the disaster relief regions.
The 24-square-meter modular homes take three minutes to erect. The modular homes can accommodate up to six people and provide adequate shelter during times of disaster.
Modular Steel-Framed Disaster Relief Foldaway Homes
Rajan Harinarain’s innovative “foldaway home” idea was nominated for the Johnny Walker Awards.
TDM has supplied over 1,800 steel-framed homes for people who have been ravaged by natural disasters in the Easter Cape alone. TDM will now be focusing its efforts on other parts of South Africa.
Utilizing the speed of Scottsdale’s roll forming systems and Rajan Harinarain’s patent, TDM is able to produce 24 modular steel-framed homes in 24-hours.

TDM purchased the Scotpanel 7090 roll forming machine to provide a thicker cavity on the more permanent structures. They continue to supply housing solutions in South Africa, where there is a shortage of both temporary and permanent housing.
