Steel framing continues to prove its value as more projects transition from traditional construction methods to smarter, more resilient building solutions.
At CFSEI Expo 2026 in Long Beach, CA, we spoke with Andrew Newland (Andy) from ADTEK Engineers about a recent project in Mission, TX, where the Avid Candlewood Suites Hotel was successfully converted from wood framing to steel framing using Scottsdale’s roll forming technology.
The four-story hotel project, fabricated by KSI-CFS, incorporated a fully cold-formed steel solution, including floor systems, wall framing, and shear walls, with panelized assemblies helping improve installation speed and efficiency. KSI-CFS currently operates four of our roll forming machines, including: KFS Framemaker 1420, Scottruss 6050, Scotpanel 5140, and Scotpanel 7090.
During the interview, Andy also highlighted key advantages of cold-formed steel over wood material, including non-combustibility, strength-to-weight ratio, and resistance to termites and mold. The conversation reinforced that steel framing continues to offer practical solutions for builders seeking durability, efficiency, and long-term performance.
