Cold-formed steel framing roll forming technology meets a national need at METALCON 2025. America is facing a housing crisis, and veterans are among the most affected. At METALCON 2025, Scottsdale Construction Systems is leading a mission to change that. By combining cold-formed steel, advanced roll forming technology, and purpose-driven design and architecture, Scottsdale is helping build a full-scale steel home that will become a permanent retreat for veterans. Welcome to project “Eagles Landing”, powered by Scottsdale’s roll forming technology and in partnership with The Barndominium Company. This structure will be fabricated and showcased live on the METALCON 2025 exhibition floor before being shipped and reassembled at its final destination in Hall, Montana.
This blog explores why steel framing is a smarter, faster, and more sustainable solution to America’s housing problems, especially when it comes to building for those who’ve served our nation.

A Steel Home To Honor Our Veterans
At METALCON 2025, attendees will witness the live construction of a 2,500 sq. ft. cold-formed steel barndominium, designed specifically to serve veterans and their families. This 2 bedroom and 2 bathroom cold-formed steel structure will be shipped post-show and permanently installed in Hall, Montana at a rural retreat offering peace, recreation, and connection for veterans and their families.
Welcome to project Eagles Landing
Powered by Scottsdale’s Roll Forming Machines
Eagles Landing was developed in partnership with the Military Warriors Support Foundation, The Barndominium Company, The Expo Group and powered by Scottsdale Construction Systems, a global leader in steel framing and roll forming technology. As METALCON approaches, we continue to welcome new partners, bringing their services, expertise, and support to this meaningful project.

Witness Scotpanel & Scottruss Roll Forming Machines in Action
To fabricate the entire frame, Scottsdale is using its industry-leading Scotpanel 5140G2 and Scottruss 6050G1 roll forming machines to fabricate all cold-formed steel framing members. What makes Scotpanel 5140 and Scottruss 6050 roll forming machines the right equipment for a special project such as Eagles Landing?
- Speed: It can fabricate full framing components for an entire home in just one day.
- Precision: CNC-controlled cutting and punching ensure clean, accurate connections, with no need for manual rework.
- Flexibility: The roll forming machine is optimized for wall, floor, and roof panels but can also handle custom profile adjustments for complex layouts, fabricating a full building envelope.
- Integration: Built to work seamlessly with Scottsdale’s intelligent software platform, from design to production all under one software package.

Mobile Roll Forming Steel Framing Factories
Containerized roll forming factories, represent a new level of mobility and efficiency in steel framing operations. By integrating compact Scotpanel roll forming machines with a decoiler into a standard shipping container, it’s now possible to operate a full-fledged roll forming factory right from within a mobile unit. Containerized roll forming factories can be deployed directly to project sites, whether in remote locations, urban environments with limited space, or areas affected by natural disasters. For disaster relief and emergency housing, containerized factories provide an immediate, on-site solution for producing steel wall panels and framing components without relying on external supply chains. On urban jobsites, they reduce material storage needs, minimize traffic disruptions, and streamline the entire build schedule by eliminating delays associated with transporting prefabricated materials.
One of the most significant advantages of the Scotpanel roll forming machine in this configuration is its flexible power requirements. Unlike many industrial machines that are restricted to three-phase power, the Scotpanel can operate on both single-phase and three-phase electricity. This allows builders to set up containerized roll forming operations in virtually any location, rural or urban, industrial or residential, without the need for costly electrical upgrades or generators. The ability to produce cold-formed steel framing on-site, powered by the available electricity source, accelerates timelines, reduces logistics costs, and enhances responsiveness in fast-moving or unpredictable construction environments.
The Scotpanel and Scottruss roll forming machines have been used in projects ranging from premium hotels to multi-family housing, and its inclusion in Eagles Landing project demonstrates how roll forming machines can deliver speed and scalability to address urgent housing needs.
Why Steel Homes Are the Smarter Solution
We can no longer afford to rely on outdated construction methods. Wood framing is prone to warping, mold, fire, pests, and long lead times, not to mention increasing costs and sustainability concerns. In contrast, the advantages of cold-formed steel framing include:
- Durability: Non-combustible, termite-resistant, and immune to moisture damage,
- Sustainability: 100% recyclable, with minimal waste during fabrication,
- Precision: Every component is manufactured to specification using roll forming technology,
- Speed: Shorter construction cycles with just-in-time delivery, and
- Cost control: Less skilled labor required, fewer delays, and consistent quality.
When steel trusses, wall frames, and floor systems are integrated into a fully engineered cold-formed steel solution, as demonstrated by Scottsdale, the result is faster construction without any compromise to structural integrity.
Steel homes can be framed in days, not weeks. That’s the kind of innovation needed to solve the growing housing crisis, especially for veterans, low-income families, and underserved communities.
